Pre-Natal Nutrition: Nourishment for Mother & Baby

Family Food’s Pre-Natal Nutrition division partners with payers and case management teams to deliver structured, evidence-based medical nutrition therapy (MNT) that supports maternal health, fetal development, and improved perinatal outcomes.

Our Registered Dietitian Nutritionists (RDNs) provide individualized nutrition care from preconception through pregnancy and into the early postpartum period. Services are designed to align with maternal quality metrics, reduce preventable complications, and support risk stratification initiatives within obstetric and population health programs.

How We Support Payers and Case Managers

1. Foundational Nutrient Optimization
Maternal nutrient status directly influences fetal development and pregnancy outcomes. Our RDNs provide targeted guidance to ensure adequate intake of critical nutrients—including folate, iron, choline, iodine, protein, and essential fatty acids—supporting healthy gestational progression and reducing nutrition-related risk factors.

2. Symptom Management to Support Adequate Intake
Common pregnancy-related symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, reflux, constipation, fatigue, and food aversions can compromise nutritional adequacy and weight gain patterns. We implement practical interventions that promote consistent intake and reduce risk of dehydration, nutrient deficiencies, and unnecessary acute care utilization.

3. Healthy Weight Gain and Glycemic Management
Inappropriate gestational weight gain and uncontrolled blood glucose increase the risk of maternal and neonatal complications. We provide individualized support for appropriate weight trajectories and coordinate care for gestational diabetes, insulin resistance, and other metabolic concerns—helping improve glycemic control and birth outcomes.

4. Evidence-Based Guidance and Risk Mitigation
Pregnant members often receive conflicting nutrition information. Our structured education reinforces evidence-based recommendations regarding food safety, supplementation, and dietary patterns—supporting informed decision-making and reducing preventable risk exposures.

5. Postpartum Recovery and Lactation Support
Nutrition care extends beyond delivery. We assist with postpartum recovery, iron repletion when indicated, energy balance, and lactation nutrition to support maternal health, breastfeeding success, and reduced readmission risk during the early postpartum period.

Value to Payers and Care Management Programs

  • Support for maternal health quality metrics and value-based care initiatives

  • Potential reduction in gestational diabetes–related complications

  • Improved adherence to prenatal care recommendations

  • Enhanced member engagement during high-risk and high-cost episodes of care

  • Scalable virtual delivery to expand access across diverse populations

Family Food’s Pre-Natal Nutrition division strengthens maternal health strategies by addressing nutrition as a core, modifiable determinant of pregnancy and postpartum outcomes.
